Martha Overton Johnson, 87, of 909 Wilson St., Roanoke Rapids, died Friday, January 8, 2010.

Mrs. Johnson was born June 16, 1922 in Granville County, the daughter of the late Joseph Overton and Bertha Emory Overton. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother to her sons. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven Joseph Johnson; her twin sister, Mary Kidd, and her other sisters, Jean Mammarella, Annie Belle Boyd, and Clovene Tanner; and her brothers, Paul Overton and John Overton.

She is survived by her son, William Michael Johnson and his wife, Bonnie; two sisters, Margaret Harrison and Allene Holton, all of Roanoke Rapids; her daughter-in-law, Melodie Johnson Boyce, of Littleton; three grandchildren, Renee Peterson and her husband, John, of Northfield, NJ, Crystal Johnson of Cary and Richard Johnson of Roanoke Rapids, and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. LaCount Anderson officiating.
